These trends to my mind seemed to begin in the 60's related to the corruption involved in the Vietnam war. Oddly the lies that propelled the war, once exposed, along with the apparent incompetence in conducting the war created it's own backlash of mistrust. That ended with withdrawal from the war even as the war was finally achieving it's objective. Some took advantage of the dissatisfaction of the war to take control away from the people - Alinsky/Clouward-Piven ideology. Behind the scenes we have seen income inequality grow substantially and in history, that often leads to revolutionary changes. That slow revolution is arriving now given social changes over time.

We are seeing a dual system of government between traditionalists who desire self-governance and those who imagine they can rework society in better ways. Many do not want the responsibility of self-governance/self-reliance. They are weak and wish others to decide. They seem to be in ascendance with others taking advantage of them for their own personal gain. They firmly believe they really do know what's good for the masses.

The public is slowly becoming aware of this trend and many dislike the efforts to brainwash children in the new morality. Whether that growing awareness is adequate to stem the takeover by those who wish to control - Plato's Republic style - is unclear.
